The public realm refers to the way we perceive the built environment. It describes the character of a place that results from the buildings, or infrastructure, that defines that place, or space.

The built environment, whether for living, working, transport or the provision of services, revolves around people – like you and me. People provide the heart of any development. Satisfying the needs of people is a prerequisite for achieving social cohesion, which ultimately benefits society.

We believe that designers need to consider every aspect of the public realm. Not only the spaces created by a development but also those in-between and ‘left over’ spaces.

It is this desire to make things better that continues to inform our studies for improving the public realm, from new urban parks and agro-forests to re-establishing the urban grain of town centres.
